AVON LAKE, OH — Avon Lake police had a busy Thanksgiving and early December, dealing with multiple frauds and car accidents throughout the city.

Fraud, Nov. 16 — An Avon Lake man’s IRA account was emptied by an unknown person, according to police. The missing cash was discovered when the man’s guardian checked the account and found a “substantial amount of money” was gone.

Burglary, Nov. 19 — Someone broke into a home on Wildberry Circle by kicking in a side door. They stole a jug of loose change, a diamond pendant, and a sterling silver spoon set.
Traffic stop, Nov. 21 — Cannabis and open containers of alcohol were found by police after they stopped a car on Pin Oak Parkway. The driver and one passenger were cited for the items.

Identity theft, Nov. 23 — Someone went to the Verizon Store in Westlake and opened an account using an Avon Lake man’s personal information. The impostor purchased an iPhone and charged it to the Avon Lake man’s account.
Theft, Nov. 23 — An Avon Lake woman lost $20,000 in a cryptocurrency investment scam.
Operating a vehicle impaired, Nov. 26 — A vehicle ran off Jaycox Road, near Hickory Lane. Witnesses saw the driver stumble out of the car after the accident, police said, and then fall to the ground. The driver was determined to be under the influence, police added, and taken into custody.
Operating a vehicle impaired, Nov. 26 — Cannabis and drug paraphernalia were found in a car stopped for speeding on Miller Road.
